MATRYOSHKA or Russian Nesting Doll (NOT BABUSHKA which means Grandmother)

- handcrafted and hand-painted in Russia
- provincial Russians’ term for lady "Matryona" or "Matryoshka"
- "ma-ter " is latin for mother
EACH CRAFTED DOLL IS UNIQUE. THE HAND-PAINTING IS NOT PERFECT.
- we call each subsequent, smaller version a "DOLL" even though there might be x5 progressively smaller Cats or Spidermans
- the pricing reflects the skill required to produce the MATRYOSHKA and how many DOLLS complete the piece, not the size of the ’first’ DOLL.
- NOTE a small or squat, 15 DOLL set requires more skill than a large 15 DOLL set and thus is more expensive.
- size classification is not consistent- a medium from one order can be smaller than a small from a previous order. Our pricing is consistent.
We just apply our pricing policy to the wholesale price and we spend time (a few emails) ensuring the wholesale price is correct.
HOW THE DOLLS ARE MADE
- logs are at least two years old before use
- only a master craftsman can tell when the logs are ready
- craftsman uses lathe and beguilingly small knives & chisels
